Robert Ludlum
Boasting twenty-five titles to his name, Robert Ludlum is a prominent fixture in the thriller genres. Born in May of 1927 in New York City, Ludlum attended the prestigious Cheshire Academy before enrolling in the Wesleyan University in Connecticut.
Here he established himself as quite the actor, often a star on the stage. In fact, he harboured dreams to be an actor and producer before winning acclaim in the literary field. With the publishing of ‘The Scarlatti Inheritance’ in 1971 and then ‘The Osterman Weekend’ in 1972, he soon set himself apart from his contemporaries.
Expertly able to blend intrigue and mystery with suspense and plot twists, Robert Lulum’s novels soon became works projected onto the silver screen. His books ‘The Holocroft Covenant’ and ‘The Apocalypse Watch’, joined ‘The Osterman Weekend’ as featured films. While Ludlum continued to supply his fans with excellent thriller fiction, he won over most of Hollywood with ‘The Bourne Identity’ series that later won three Academy Awards.
Among his many thriller titles, including ‘The Rhinemann Exchange’, ‘The Parsifal Mosaic’, and ‘The Road to Omaha’, he also wrote multiple co-authored works in which he blended his talents with other authors. Following his dreams of film production, Robert was not shy about continuing to publish works that made it into films and also as mini-series’.
His last piece, ‘The Chancellor Manuscript’ was released as a movie in 2009, eight years after the author had died. Robert Ludlum succumbed to subdural hematoma in 2001, yet his has continued to receive acclaim through his posthumously published works.
