American author Dan Brown was born in New Hampshire in 1964. His first three novels – Digital Fortress, Deception Point, and Angels and Demons received little success, and it wasn’t until his forth novel that people started taking notice of his work.

Brown is best known for the 2003 The Da Vinci Code. This best selling novel has been translated into well over 40 languages around the world, and to date has sold around 80 millions copies. This controversial thriller, received huge amounts of publicity for it’s anti-Christian subject matter, criticism from the Pope himself, and a very public copyright lawsuit.

Brown’s exciting fast paced thriller, which is said to be one of the most popular books of all time, is set in a 24-hour period, and features the popular Robert Langdon character. The Da Vinci Code and Angels and Demons were later made into a feature length films, with Tom Hanks as the main protagonist Langdon, and were directed by Ron Howard.

After the success of The Da Vinci Code, Brown’s first three books quickly gained popularity and all enjoyed long periods on the New York Times best seller list. This is by no means the end for the Robert Langdon character, as Brown is said to have at least 12 more books planned for him.

Since the The Da Vinci Code, Brown has been included in TIME Magazine World’s 100 Most Influential People, and won numerous awards for his writing. Brown is still writing and has also released a number of books which he co-authored with his wife.
